2021 is now well underway, and here we are on the 1st February.
At the University of Liverpool January saw the end of Semester 1 and the assessment period for those modules. With Lockdown 3, all continues to be online — it is such a difficult time for everyone, and students continue to work hard as well as finding ways of keeping in touch and positive too. Semester 2 starts next Monday and we’re all geared up for new performance projects. Also, an event for the diary, I’m a member of the team planning a Women in Music Conference on 10 March 2021 – an interactive online conference to hosted by the University to coincide with International Women’s Day on 8 March. It’s shaping up to be an exciting event, it is hoped this inaugural event will expand to an annual in-person hybrid event in the future. I’ll post details and the Eventbrite information in due course.

I am joined this term in our online theory lessons for the Junior Conservatoire by several undergraduate students who are taking modules in pedagogy. They’re gaining experience of class teaching with me, while also shadowing individual tutors for instrumental/singing lessons. A very different way to complete work experience, but invaluable as the world we live in relies heavily on technology and hybrid delivery will be with us moving forward.
The Schubert Institute UK launched their new website (www.schubertinstituteuk.com) yesterday to coincide with Schubert’s 224th birthday. There are still some areas under development, with our new website administrator now on board exciting times to come.
The buds are starting to come on trees and we’ve got our first snow drops in the garden. Hugs are still not allowed, but talking to each other and spreading a smile remain more important than ever. Take care all, and happy February.
